With all the holiday excitement and cheer, this time can also be a little overwhelming, and not all that relaxing. Food, fun and family over the holidays can be much needed, but can also leave you feeling a little out of steam once it’s time to get back to the books. Here are a few ways to keep your body and mind sharp over the holidays, and to make the most out of your vacation.
Get Moving
Daily activity is a key to feeling energized and getting rid of stress. Whether or not you have a daily exercise routine, the holiday season can also be a great time to try some other physical activities as well, whether it’s ice skating, hockey, or even just going for a good long walk. All of these things are important to keep yourself feeling good and ready to take on the day.
Healthy Snacks
Of course the holiday season offers the promise of some delicious food coming your way, but there is no need to overdo it. By keeping some healthy snack alternatives around, this can be a key towards fighting the cravings to only going for the sweets. Maybe even take this time to try cooking a nice healthy dish, or dessert. You know there is going to be plenty of sweets to enjoy, so its important to at least have some meals or snacks that can help and balance out the equation.
Make a Plan
One of the best ways to de-stress is simply by having a plan. The holiday season provides a great time for you to reflect upon your own goals. If you can, sit down and write 5 things you would like to accomplish over the next year. Go even further with this and try to list specific methods or behaviours that will help you reach your goals. Even just by doing this activity, it will help to start getting the wheels in motion. By reflecting on your goals, and making a plan to reach them, you can turn your holiday season into a launching pad for great success in the next term.
Let Yourself Enjoy
Some people can be hard on themselves, making it difficult to truly relax and to take a much needed break. It’s important to remember that no matter what, everyone deserves a break once in a while. This means that even while incorporating some of the things we have mentioned here, it’s also important to let loose a little. If you need to, sleep in, or enjoy a nice sit by the fire, and a good cup of cocoa. These things are actually very important parts of the holiday break as well. We all need to remember that it can’t just be about work all the time, and that in order to de-stress, we truly need to give ourselves permission once in a while.
So, take a load off, and let this holiday season be a time to rejuvenate your body and mind, energizing you for the next term. We at Sharpminds Academy hope you have a restful, and meaningful holiday season.
